The INTERMATE is a lightweight, disposable device that uses an elastomeric reservoir to infuse medication. When filled, the INTERMATE device operates with a sustained internal pressure. Contents are delivered through a particulate matter filter and a flow restrictor. The INTERMATE is designed to provide a continuous flow of medication over the infusion period at the nominal flow rate indicated on the device. The device is designed to deliver the nominal volume with a plus/minus 15% of the nominal delivery time. Flow rate is affected by the temperature and viscosity of the drug solution as well as the position of the INTERMATE with respect to the Distal End Luer-Lock (refer to "Mixing and Use Information"). INTERMATE SV and INTERMATE LV housings contain UV blocking capabilities effective to 380 nm which block UVB, UVC and most UVA rays.
