It consists of: a soft silicone wound-contact layer (Safetac) an absorbent pad in three layers: a polyurethane foam, a nonwoven layer and a fiber mixture with super absorbent polyacrylate fibers and an outer film which is vapor permeable and moisture and bacteria proof. Safetac Technology Safetac is a patented soft silicone adhesive technology. Dressings with Safetac technology are atraumatic upon removal. These dressings minimize trauma to the wound and the surrounding skin, which minimizes pain to the patient. The risk of maceration is minimized by sealing the wound margins. Mode of action Mepilex Border absorbs exudate, maintains a moist wound-healing environment and minimizes the risk for maceration. As Mepilex Border maintains a moist wound environment, supporting debridement, there might be an initial increase in the wound size. This is normal and to be expected. In case studies, dressings with Safetac technology have demonstrated to normalize dry and scaly surrounding skin. Thanks to its absorptive and retentive properties Mepilex Border is suitable for use under compression bandaging. Mepilex Border can be used in combination with gels. Intended use Mepilex Border is designed for a wide range of exuding wounds such as pressure ulcers, leg and foot ulcers, surgical incisions, and traumatic wounds, such as skin tears, blisters, abrasions, and secondary healing wounds. Mepilex Border can also be used on dry/necrotic wounds in combination with gels. Instructions for use Cleanse the wound in accordance with normal procedures.
